Naturopathic Medicine

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a comprehensive, holistic and individualized primary health care system that promotes wellness and prevention of disease. By integrating modern scientific research with the wisdom of traditional medicine, naturopathic doctors use natural substances to stimulate the body’s innate capacity to heal itself. When disease is present, the focus of naturopathic treatment is to address the underlying cause of illness rather than simply suppressing symptoms or managing disease. Naturopathic doctors view the individual as an integral whole, and strive for balance between the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and environmental aspects of self.Within this framework, no two people with the same condition are treated exactly alike.

What training do licensed naturopathic doctors go through?

Naturopathic Doctors must complete a minimum of three years of pre-medical study. This is followed by a four-year Naturopathic Medical Degree program . The first two years follow a standard medical school curriculum, branching into naturopathic disciplines. The last year is dedicated to an internship at the college's clinic. To be licensed, Naturopathic doctors must pass a comprehensive oral and written government exams. To retain certification, graduates must periodically take continuing education courses and seminars required by their professional College.
